Camponotus Fedrschenkoi - Carpenter Ant - Intermediate
Of all of the species we see at Ant Antics, this species is one of the most striking. With a brown thorax and Lucious amber/yellow gaster these queens are a marvel on their own. But the joy of their varied colouration means the workers can range from almost translucent through to brown in the head. Using our sugar snaps, their translucent gasters can make for some pretty spectacular coloured colonies too.
Found in Asia they love warmth and have an optimum growth heat of 27 degrees. They are found in fairly dry places in the wild, often discovered in sandy deserts. This means they would be well suited to Ytong, plaster, cork and wood nests very well.
Being rather fast, they make for great nocturnal predators in the wild, with a larger colony you can enjoy some aggressive behaviours too.
Please note: this species has huge colour variations from queen to queen and worker to worker.
