Camponotus Sanctus - African Carpenter

Camponotus Sactus - Beginner/Intermediate Species

Camponotus Sanctus are a striking and beautiful species of Carpenter ant found in the northern regions of Africa and Turkey.  Sanctus are essentially a "turbo" sized fedtschenkoi when the workers are compared and like fedts, you can even change their colours with different sugar snaps flavours to make christmas themed ants.

Native to Northern Africa they can be found in the soil wooded areas.  Typically forming nests under stone or fallen logs.  They will also clib trees to gather honeydew from aphids and find prey.

Primarily a scavenger, sactus will take advantage of weaker insects, injured or dead.  They do have acid and will use it without mercy when threatened.  Vented outworlds are a must.

These girls are fast and avid workers who can quickly scavenge goods and resources then return to their underground nest. This is a wise adaption especially in places where heat is their locale and home is much safer staying  underground during the day. As such this species has higher activity and likes to scavenge in twilight and nocturnally unless they are fully founded.

As with most Camponotus they are a fairly slow growing species to begin, but once a colony reaches 1000 workers they rapidly expand to their full capacity of 4000 to 6000 workers with a usual average around 5,000.

Overall they are easy to found and enjoy fruit, aphid honeydew and insects. Although only a medium size their beauty makes them a must have for any seasoned ant-keeper.
