Using the right substrate for your ants is key.  This is optimum for safe tunnels with its high clay content.  Varying sizes of rocks provide a great ladscape or underground stonage for your ants to dig around.
 
This substrate is perfect for both outworlds and / or sandwich nests where tunnels will be made.
 
NOTE: If using for sandwich nests or for structural applications where the colony can dig, ALWAYS make sure you keep it hydrated.
